Sena Keyboard Folio for iPad gets official

senakbfolio sg

The case has surfaced as the Sena Keyboard Folio for the iPad. The case will come in the black we saw in the fuzzy FCC pics as well as tan, red, and brown colors. The thing will normally sell for $149.99 but it can be pre-ordered right now for $129.99.

Sena lists the case as shipping on October 7. The main feature of the case is that thin Bluetooth keyboard. Other features include a recessed stand on the back that collapses to hold the screen up for you to type. The keyboard is good for 45 hours of use or 55 hours on standby with the integrated lithium ion battery, which is apparently rechargeable though that isn’t specified. The controls and ports of the iPad are left uncovered for access and the face of the keyboard is silicone to protect from spills and splashes.

iPad vs MacBook: Is the Tablet Eating Its Own Brethren?

The iPad has had tremendous success, just like everyone thought it would, and the mobile device is already a threat for the netbook business, but also to the laptop business, PC and Mac included.

ios 4 ipad

Yes, you heard me right, folks, it looks like the iPad is eating through its own also. According to a recent report not only PC sales have been affected by the introduction of the tablet but Mac sales too. Going back in time we’ll replay that last Apple quarterly earnings report in which Apple’s officials were touting how iPad Mac cannibalization is not a serious threat. And if that happens, then lots of PCs will also die in the process. Even Steve Ballmer is aware of that.

But is Apple willing to lose a fair share of MacBook (and other Mac models) customers? The first response you’ll be willing to give me is probably no, since the most expensive iPad is cheaper than the cheapest MacBook notebook. I’d say that’s an accurate argument but you are forgetting that the iPad, on its own, is a device you don’t need. Add some apps, eBooks, videos and music and the tablet comes to life. But guess what, all that content, coming from Apple, is not free of charge, and, over time, Apple will make a lot more money on you than what you initially paid for the tablet.

We’re considering MacBooks here for the sake of the comparison as the obvious iPad alternative since they’re both mobile devices. But today’s report says that the iPad is cannibalizing on Mac sales, meaning Apple desktops too.

The iPad vs Mac report comes from Morgan Stanley’s Katy Huberty and she is saying that PC sales dropped to 3% year over year for July compared to 6% in June and 8% in May and the iPad can be blamed for that. Sales for business went up 39% year over year, which kept PC at a steady 11%.

Looking at Mac sales for July she wrote that sales are up 14% year over year, better than June at 11% but down when compared with the previous three-month average, which is at 25%.

So that’s probably why Apple is thinking a 7-inch tablet is a good idea, and as a smaller netbook-like computer could do even more damage. Have you purchased an iPad instead of a Mac or PC?

Waterwear will make your iPad waterproof

Waterwear is a plastic bag that you can put your iPad into allowing for heavy iPad use on the beach, in the kitchen, by the pool and even in the shower or bubble bath.

Why is it cool? It allows for full iPad functionality in all elements and comes with a handy strap for those who can’t unhook from technology long enough to take a shower.

I can see using this at the beach reading it but I can’t imagine walking in on someone sitting under the showerhead with their iPad in hand. I wonder if this new iPad condom will ship with a voucher for group therapy sessions for those who cannot put their device down.

Enough ranting, you can pick up your Waterwear iPad Cover is for 3,480 yen ($38).

What happens when you combine the iPad and Velcro

If you were stranded on an island and could either have an iPad or Velcro, what would you choose? I mean, on one hand, the iPad is a multi-purpose piece of technology that users are going crazy over. Velcro is, well, an ingenious invention but not that exciting.

Velcro doesn’t seem to get the credit it deserves. The iPad will get updated over the years, but velcro hasn’t changed since day one. A design so innovative, it needs no improvement. So what if someone decided to put both these technologies together. Yes, you might want to sit down for this.

GENIUS!!!!!!

An iPad as your on-dash GPS, or a digital picture frame. The ideas are endless. As my grandfather once said: “just put some duct tape and velcro around it and it’s like new”. Seems like something MacGyver would do.

iPad's First Spyware is Intentional ???

It was only a matter of time before the iPad started seeing spyware surface. But I, for one, sure couldn’t have guessed it’d be like this.

Mobile Spy is an app (I use the term loosely – I’ll explain in a moment) that allows an individual to collect the usage data of the target device, be it an iPad, Android phone, Blackberry, or Windows Mobile device, and view it via an online account.

Said James John, CEO of Retina-X, the company behind the software:

“Any device that can browse the Internet or send email can lead to unauthorized activities. Before now there was no method to monitor activities of children or employees on the iPad. Being the first to develop this technology, we will continue expanding with new features for this tool by recording GPS positions, photos, notes and more.”

A $100-a-year subscription fee combined with the fact that Mobile Spy only works on a jailbroken iPad is really making me scratch my head, here. So, let me get this straight, Retina-X: you want me to crack my firmware, void my warranty, load up a third-party app, and send you not only my money, but my confidential information (or, rather, other people’s) to your servers?
